trying to make these two paintings closely relate, won't know til it's over if i succeeded. really like this canvas anyway. 11x14 oil on stretched linen gallery wrapped
painted on a piece of glass, then layed a piece of printmaking paper on top and burnished the back. pulled the paper off, and viola! a monoprint. this paper i sized with some acrylic varnish, so the paint did not soak in. about 8x10" oil paint 'moth and moon'
nicolai fechin was a russion born impressionist who emigrated to the us in the early part of the last century. i adore his work, and attempted to copy "the balinese girl" as an exercise for one of the artist forums i belong to. this is the drawing with some block-in.
used art spectrum pastel paper today, a deep gray. it requires that i use old brushes, as it's sanded and tears up good brushes. but that just adds a bit of challenge, and i'm satisfied with the result. 9x12" oils the photo is too yellow, irl more blue.
i did not expect my attempt at painting 'thread' to work, using a rigger brush, but it actually did come out pretty well. next time i will be more careful with positioning!
