sycamore on 41

when i was driving home from painting 'fav house' the sun was hitting the light bark of this sycamore and softly lighting the leaves. there was a lot of haze and it seems to make the air itself glow. i only had time to shoot a few photos for a possible painting. it seems to help me if i have a couple of days to let the scene develop in my mind, and then put it on the canvas. i used a piece of linen taped to a board for this. about 12" square.

after picasso, good cheer

when copying from masterworks, it is common practice to sign 'after' whomever, and your name. this is a great way to learn and used in art school. anyhoo, not only did i copy picasso's 'woman with yellow hair', i got in a great mood from doing it! the lyrical lines, complementary colors used, his childlike simplicity, her peaceful repose, there is actually a lot going on here. deceptively simple, i believe. the more i study, the more i like about art.

framing day

spent the afternoon framing and showing a couple of paintings. the antique store owner was unable to purchase the painting of her store, but is willing to take the other piece on consignment for a month, so there is a thread of hope there still.
