burrito, time bandito

did a woodcut/printmaking project today and it stole my oil painting time. so i decided to show it here for a change of pace. mistakes were made, but it was FUN. first i carved away the parts i wanted to remain the cream color of the paper, and rolled on some sticky gray ink. pressed a piece of printmaking paper onto it, and rubbed the back til it transferred. did this twice so i could have 2 proofs, then i had to wait for the ink to dry, and carved away the part on the block that i wanted to remain gray. rolled out black ink this time, and overprinted on the gray layer. so there can only ever be 2 of these, as the wood is carved away.
the printed area is 8"x12". blick water soluble printmaker's ink, black and white. mixed for the gray.

sometimes my struggle fails, but im posting anyway. cropped to 7"x10" sandpaper. tried to capture those fleeting moments of sundown. need to study zorn!

good soap and a good subject for my 'daily'. 4"x6" rough w/c paper. this one was done awhile back, as an extra for a too busy day.

i bought this at goodwill, just so i could paint it! needs more work, but wanted to get it posted for today's 'daily'. it's a 9"x12" on masonite.

using a new type of gesso that is more absorbent and i like it very much. there is some color variation in the photo that is not correct, but not crucial. i particularly enjoyed painting this one.

a quick attempt at a fav pic of my daughter, she is surrounded by light. this is w/c paper toned with some leftover paint on my palette and the color reminded me of her. oils, about 5 x 7 in.

today's effort was painted on some cloth sandpaper from the hardware store. i very much like this surface, but i suppose it is not 'archival'. this is more what i was going for yesterday. oil paint on sandpaper, approx 5.5 x 9 in.
